Slow Children Crossing

Every two thousand years an excess of 200 hundred shooting stars light up the sky during the Aurigid meteor shower. Astronomers recognize this extraordinary occurrence as one of the rarest in our galaxy. Well.... now comedy lovers are equally excited about a rare occurrence lighting up their galaxy, a unique sketch comedy troupe known as “Slow Children Crossing" that is trailblazing the continent with their own brand of take-no-prisoners humor.

It all began back in 2006 when Brett Butler, fresh off his stint from the cult-classic cartoon Sealab: 2021 on Adult Swim, was looking for his next project. Being new to the Los Angeles comedy scene he turned to his drinking buddy and fellow actor Alem Sapp (How High), a veteran of the LA theatre scene. “I knew I wanted a group that went against the status quo.” says Butler, who had worked in New York City with several other groups. All the needed was a few more talented comedy performers to round out the group. After extensive auditioning Brett and Alem enlisted Destini Meshack (BET’s Played by Fame), Tiffany Thomas (The Boondocks), and Saudia Rashed (The New Guy) to join the troupe.

From the moment they got together the chemistry was unmistakable, and ever since the sketch comedy scene has been abuzz over this amazing configuration of talent and energy. After a couple of runs on LA’s theatre row, Comedy Central invited them to perform at “The Comedy Central Theatre.” Since then they have been invited to perform all over the country at events such as the Seattle Sketchfest, Chicago Sketchfest, and the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival in Austin Texas. Their first international show, at the Montreal Sketchfest, sold out within a week!

Audiences cite the group’s electric energy, along with their willingness to make fun of the world and themselves, as the main attraction. One such audience member, award-winning French filmmaker Maya Schweizer, was so entranced she made them the subject of her 2009 film Before the Rehearsal. Politics, race, sex, slavery, celebrities; no topic is left untouched when these comic scientists are in the lab.

Slow Children Crossing is also constantly employing different mediums and venues as conduits for their chicanery. Besides their well-traveled YouTube page and website, they are in talks to launch a reality show and are presently creating “SCCTV”, webisodes mixed with live and filmed material. All laced with what they call, “inappropriate humor for all.” With all that in tow they will be just as hard to ignore as an Aurigid meteor shower. Be sure not to miss SCC in action, you won't be disappointed!
